Christmas Clubs to save money for gifts and other expenses at holiday time have been around for a long time – this ad from 1922 is appealing to men who couldn’t buy their wives the present they wanted!  They are admonished to start saving early so they can buy “the present you have always wanted to give her.”  For quite a few years there were fewer Christmas Club type accounts, but they do still exist.  These days, avoiding credit card debt is the reason given for opening the account.  The second ad is for a sale at Turner’s Store, and I was amused by the honesty – “We need the money!”
