Getting Closer

This item from January 1916 anticipates the railway reaching Spirit River on January 17.  While the article says Spirit River would be the end-of-steel for some time to come, it was only nine weeks until the railway reached Grande Prairie.  This connection to the “outside,” and to the markets of the south and east, was the dream of the earliest pioneers.
