Lowe, Joseph

Joseph Lowe was born in the Winterburn, Ab. area 1919. He was the youngest of 14 children of Jacob and Prudence Lowe. When he was five years old his mother died and his father move with Joe and his sister to Vegreville, Ab., where some of the other older married children were living. In 1928 Joe, Eva and their father came to Beaverlodge to make their home. Joe attended the North Beaverlodge School and helped on the farm where they were staying.

Joe enlisted in 1941, and after spending time in Nanaimo, B.C. and Dundern, Sk., went overseas in the fall of 1943 with the R.C.A. and transferred to the R.C.E.M.E. After spending a short time in England he landed in Italy, then drove up through to Holland. He was discharged in 1945 and came home to Bert Cunningham’s farm at Albright, Ab.

Joe married Audrey Sutherland in 1954 and moved to Beaverlodge. They had two children, Lynnette and Chuck. Audrey was a teacher with the Beaverlodge Elementary school and Joe worked for Foster’s Seed and Feed Ltd. Both Joe and Audrey were active with the Legion and Auxiliary.

Joe passed away in 1987 and is interred at Riverview Cemetery in Albright, Ab.
