Joseph Albert Urbain Vianney Limoges was born in Lac la Biche, Ab. on November 23, 1915 and arrived in McLennan, Ab. May, 24, 1936 to work as night clerk in the Giroux Hotel.
Vianney enlisted with the R.C.A.F. in October, 1940, then came back to McLennan to marry Mariette Lessard on August 23, 1941. After 14 days of married life he was shipped out. He spent some time at postings in Ottawa, Montreal, Comox, B.C., and then overseas in North Africa as a Wireless Air Gunner. After his discharge in August 1945, Vianney spent close to a year in Clairmont, Ab., then returned to McLennan to take over the Postmastership, which he held until his retirement in November, 1980.
Vianney was very active in civic affairs of the town, being on Town council for a number of years and serving with the Fire Department. He was a member of the Separate School Board, Secretary-Treasurer for the Legion No. 153 and also Secretary for the Northern Zone of the Postmaster’s Association. He also had a life membership with the B.P.O. Elks.
Vianney passed away in 2013 in St. Albert, Ab.
