Lightfoot, James “Jim”

James (Jim) Henry Lightfoot was born in Cutknife, Sk. on December 29, 1922. At a young age he moved with his family, first to Pibrock, Ab., then to Spirit River in 1927. He attended Spirit Valley School with his brothers, Howard, Leonard, Ed and Benny.

Jim served overseas in WWII, returning to Spirit River in 1945 with his new war bride, Hilary, from Birmingham, England.

Upon his return to Canada, Jim worked in Grande Prairie until the fall of 1946, then moved to a half section farm in Blueberry Mountain. He farmed for 28 years while working for the Spirit River School Division, as well as running a grader for the Department of Transportation.

In 1958 Jim moved to Grande Prairie and continued working for the Department of Transportation until his retirement on April 30, 1987. He remarried to Muriel Ray in March 1975.

James Lightfoot passed away on April 8, 2002, and is interred at the City of Grande Prairie Cemetery.
