Leggatt, Albert “Buster”

Albert (Buster) Leggatt was born in Petersfield, Hampshire, England and came to Canada in 1920 from England at the young age of 17, to join his sister who was living in the Bear Lake area. He worked on his sister’s farm and stayed with his sister and brother-in-law until he married Gladys Payne, whom he met upon arriving in Canada. Once they married in 1924, they lived in a house on the John Payne farm. Buster worked for Mr. Thomas on his farm from 1925 – 1927, he then bought the farm from Mr. Thomas in 1928. Bert, Gladys and their three children lived on the farm until August of 1966 when they retired to Grande Prairie. Buster served in the Air Force during World War II.  Albert (Buster) passed away on June 3rd, 1987 at the age of 83 years old. He is buried in the City of Grande Prairie Cemetery.
