Kulachokosky, Nick

Nick Kulachkosky was born in Stewarburn, MB on June 27th, 1911. When he was a young boy, his family moved to Melfort, SK. In 1928 he came to take up land in Bonanza where his brother Anton was running the general store and post office and was also farming. Nick filed a quarter that he later sold and left the area for a while. In 1935 he returned and continued farming. In December of 1939 he took over the store and post office in Bay Tree. In 1941 he married Ann Sajtovich. Nick was drafted into the Army in 1942. In 1944 he received a medical discharge and returned to his business in Bay Tree. He and Ann went on to have two children. In 1951 Bay Tree was chosen for the location to build a U.F.A. petroleum bulk plant, Nick became the agent. In February 1968, Nick was honoured by the federal postal department for his long service; he received a badge marking 28 years of service. Nick suddenly passed away in 1972.
