Carl Harry Krantz was born in Erickson, MB on December 22nd, 1918, his family moved to the Valhalla area in November 1927. As the homesteads filled in around them, their home became a gathering place for all. They played crokinole and carom. They all pitched in to help break the land. During the first few winters there was no well, so they needed to melt snow for water. Harry stayed in the area to continue farming as his family spread out in various directions. On March 16th, 1942 he married Elenor Melsness. They met on the skating rink and continued with the love of skating well into their marriage. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces during World War II and was stationed at Grande Prairie, Winnipeg, Esquimalt on Vancouver Island and Calgary. Harry trained for eight months in anti-aircraft warfare in Victoria and was transferred to Calgary, and invalided out of 44 Provost Corps to train reserve troops at Valhalla. In 1963, Harry went on to build quite a few of the houses in and around Valhalla and Hythe, including the Hythe Senior Citizens Home. He and Elenor had two children. Harry passed away on September 26th, 1979 at the age of 60; he is buried at Valhalla Centre Cemetery.
