There is mention of him getting ready to head to war in the Daily Hearld Tribune on August 21st, 1941, he is referenced to leave for Edmonton the next day (August 22nd). Wilfred Johnson is the son of Hedley Johnson who served in World War I.
There is mention of Hedley and Carrie, Wilfred Johnson’s parents, homesteading in Five Mile and that is where Wilfred was born. In 1928, they sold the farm and moved to town. In 1946 they moved to Rocky Mountain House and on to Edmonton in 1955. In “Smoky River to Grande Prairie” which was published in 1978, there is mention of his family and that Wilfred was living in Edmonton.
