Rank: Sapper
Herbert Glaubitz was born in 1919 in Mossbank SK. His mother, Annie Glaubitz, (born in 1906), and his younger brother, William, moved from Crestwin SK to Crooked Creek AB in their Model T Ford in 1929. Annie filed on a homestead in the area: NE 24-71-26-W5, where the boys grew up. Annie had two jobs to earn enough money for the family: driving a binder and cooking. Herb also contributed to the family finances by trapping squirrels, 50 to 100 per day, and earning ten cents each. After the war, the price of squirrel pelts greatly increased. Both Herb and William served in WW II; Herb enlisted in February 1941. Herb married Margaret (nee Friesen) Wallgen, a widow with a son, Eric. Eventually the couple settled in DeBolt. Margaret died in 1981. Living at the Red River Manor, Herb died at age 65 in Valleyview on September 19, 1984. He is buried in the Goodwin Cemetery.
