Giroux, Lorenzo “Larry”

Larry Giroux, born on August 13, 1921, was from Grande Prairie when he enlisted with the Canadian Army, and signed up with the Edmonton Regiment in September 1939. He served overseas with the Lord Strathcona Horse for 5 ½ years being posted in Italy, France, North Africa, and Holland. He met and married his wife, Anne Nasta Masiowski, in Holland. On November 16, 1945 they had a civil ceremony in Groningen, Holland, and the next day they had a religious ceremony by the Army Chaplain. Larry and Anne raised 8 children: Shirley, Judie, Lorne, Patricia, Debarah, Toni Marie, Kathleen, and Michelle. The family lived in Vernon BC. Larry was an avid gardener and liked to golf until he was 93 years old. He was a creative and fun-loving person. Larry died on June 8, 2019, surrounded by his family. He was cremated before the memorial service, held on July 13, at the Bethel Funeral Chapel in Vernon.
