Born in 1917 in Melfort SK, Thomas Gerow was the second oldest son of Archibald and Annie (Walker) Gerow. They had 8 children (and one who passed away): Allen, Tom, Peggy, Keith, Lloyd, Alice, Lyle, and Olive. In 1929, Tom and his parents and siblings moved to the South Wapiti district in Alberta, to start a homestead. At that time there was no school in the area, so the older children took correspondence lessons. Tom took his own homestead SW 15-69-8-W6, and the family moved to his place in 1936 in order that the younger children were closer to a school. Tom joined the army in June 1941. (His younger brothers, Keith, Lloyd, and later Lyle, also served in the army in WW II.). Tom married Shirley Watson and they had 3 children: Dorothy, Marion, and Stanley. Tom passed away at age 51, on July 26, 1968 in Grande Prairie.
