Eddy Gagne was born in St. Camille, QC on July 20, 1926. Being 2 months premature, and weighing only 3 pounds, he was kept warm by the wood stove. Quickly he grew up to be a strong and healthy boy. Sadly, his father Archelas Gagne died when Eddy was only 3 months old, yet his mother Lydia (Chabot) had another baby boy in May 1927, whose name was also Archelas. Lydia remarried to Ernest Gossilin in 1933. The family moved from Quebec to Alberta, a 10 day trip, in May 1941, and they settled in Guy AB. At age 17, Eddy enlisted in the Canadian Army in March 1944, at Calgary AB. He went to training camp in Wetaskiwin, but because he could not speak English, he could only do kitchen duty. Next, he was stationed at Val Cartier, QC, which he enjoyed because he could speak French. But just before he was to be sent overseas, the war ended. Back in Guy, Eddy leased a quarter of land, and he married Marie-Anne Lemay on November 26, 1946. Their first home was on the lease; their next home was a small 2 story house 4 miles from Guy on land they bought. Eddy and Marie had 9 children: Denis, Helene, Rollande, Cecile, Raymond, Joseph, Louis, Lucien, Rene. In 1964 Eddy’s mother, Lydia, moved in with them, until 1968 when she moved to a nursing home. She died in 1969. In 1967 the family moved from the farm to the hamlet of Guy, where Eddy was closer to his work as a beekeeper. Their home was always the place for large family gatherings, and over the years Eddy and Marie had 22 grandchildren. The Gagnes were involved in the community of Guy, in Church, and in school. Eddy died at age 88 in McLennan AB, on October 18, 2014. He is buried in Guy.
