Immanuel Gaboury was one of 14 children of Adelard and Marie-Anne Drouin Gaboury, who were originally from Quebec. The family lived in several places: St. Alphonse MB, Spirit River AB, Bronco Creek AB, Willowvale AB, Silverwood AB. After his schooling, Immanuel went to work near Edmonton AB. He joined the Army in WW II, and served overseas. Two of his brothers were also overseas in the Army: Alban and Dominique. After the war, Immanuel settled in Eaglesham, where he farmed. It is unclear if he was married before or after the war. In addition to farming, Immanuel and his brothers operated a pulp wood business north of Tangent. At the camp, his mother and his wife, Yvette were the cooks.
