Force: Army
Reg Foster was born in 1900 in Gladstone MB. He came to the Peace River area in 1932 but left shortly afterwards. In 1935 he returned to stay in this area, and bought the Ford Garage in Spirit River in 1938. Reg was married to Beverly and they had 3 children: Larry in 1939, Myrna in 1940, and Roxanne in 1950. Selling the garage business, Reg served in the army in the war from 1940 to 1945 being stationed in Italy. After the war, his dream was to own a farm. Working as a land assessor for the Veterans Land Act, he was able to purchase a half section of land which overlooked Saskatoon Lake. (SE 3-72-8-W6) The historic log house on this property had been a residence and post office, and was the original homestead of Lorne Smith. In 1946, Reg and his family moved to the Lake Saskatoon district where Reg did custom land breaking for other farmers. For a year the Fosters ran a chicken business, raising as many as 6 to 7 thousand chicks! Reg rented some other land, and later he purchased land in Richmond Hill by Grande Prairie, to where they moved after selling the Lake Saskatoon land. Weather conditions were adverse, and Reg had other business interests, so the dream of farming was abandoned in 1953. Soon after this, Reg and Beverly were divorced. Beverly owned a dress shop for many years in Grande Prairie. Reg remarried to Eileen Rodacker and they had a son, Allen Lloyd in 1958. After Reg retired, he moved to Edmonton AB. Reg died in Edmonton in June 1987 at age 86.
