Joseph was born in Lindsay, Ontario on April 2, 1896. He was drafted into the Canadian Army in July of 1918, at which time he was living in Tuberose, Saskatchewan. Joseph was discharged for unknown reasons on September 5, 1918. In 1921, he filed on a homestead at SE 6-70-10-W6.
