Samuel was born in Kingston, England on November 10, 1893. He filed on a homestead at NW 20-78-14-W6 in 1914 and enlisted in the Canadian Army on September 16, 1914. On November 20, 1915, Samuel received gunshot wounds to both arms and his right leg at Kemmel. He was in hospital until May of 1916. Samuel was killed in action at Passchendaele on November 6, 1917 and is commemorated on the Menin Gate.
