Melvin was born in Twin Valley, Minnesota on August 27, 1899. He was living in Clairmont when he was drafted in 1918. Melvin served in England. After being discharged, he returned to the South Peace and filed on NW 8-79-6-W6 in 1919. Homestead records indicate that he canceled on this homestead, but the 1923 present address card in his service file states that he was still living in Grande Prairie. Melvin died on January 4, 1942 and was buried in the Brookside Cemetery in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
