Stewart was born in Harbor Beach, Michigan on March 29, 1885. He was living in Vancouver at the time of his enlistment in the Canadian Army in March of 1917. Stewart suffered from arthritis even before the war, which ultimately led to his discharge on November 30, 1917. His wife’s name was Ellen Elizabeth. Stewart filed on NE 20-73-12-W6 in 1919.
