Ferdinand was born in Vosges, France on September 9, 1886. He was living in Legal, Alberta at the time of his enlistment in the Canadian Army in April of 1916. In August of 1917, Ferdinand was wounded in action; he later received gunshot wounds to the head in August of 1918. In 1919, Ferdinand came to the South Peace and filed on the western half of 34-76-21-W5 and NW 20-76-21-W5.
