Rank: Private
Branch: 15th Battalion
Oswald was born in London, England on January 23, 1875 (he lied about his age on his attestation paper in order to get into the army). It is unknown when he first came to Canada, but he enlisted in the Canadian Army in Victoria in November of 1914. Oswald suffered from pleurisy, pneumonia, and empyema; these problems were “due to exposure in trenches.” Gas attacks at Hill 60 may have been the cause of these medical conditions. Oswald was discharged in August of 1916, having been found medically unfit. In 1918, Oswald came to the South Peace with his wife and tiny daughter and filed on the western half of 36-74-10-W6. Oswald died on February 26, 1958.
