Charles was born in Butte, Montana on June 8, 1897. At the time of his enlistment in July of 1915, he was living in the Peace River country. In October of 1916, Charles received shrapnel wounds to his head, left shoulder, and left thigh. He was invalided back to Canada in June of 1917 and discharged from the army in April of 1918 as he was medically unfit. Charles died on April 4, 1959.
