Lloyd was born on September 6, 1896 in Cumberland County, Ontario. He enlisted in the Canadian army on June 15, 1915, just a couple weeks before his father Thomas joined up. Lloyd arrived in France a year later, in June of 1916. He had only been at the front a couple of months when he received a shrapnel wound to his right thumb at Courcelette (September 1916). The thumb had to be amputated at the No. 2 Australian General Hospital, and Lloyd was discharged in November of 1916. He died in March of 1970 in Edmonton.
