Administrative history / Biographical sketch
Northwestern Polytechnic (NWP), previously known as Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC), is a public educational institution in the Peace region of Alberta with campuses in Grande Prairie and Fairview.
The institution was established as the Grande Prairie Junior College in 1966. In 1970, the college was renamed Grande Prairie Regional College. In 1974, classes were first started in a new facility designed by Canadian architect Douglas Cardinal, with an expansion completed in 1991 by architectural firm Field, Field, and Field.
The NWP combined with Fairview College in 2009 expanding into two separate campuses. in 2018 with the Province of Alberta the NWP planned on transitioning into a university, before eventually transforming into a polytechnic model in 2021 as Northwestern Polytechnic.
