This series contains records related to the Vader and Scott families. The records consist of approximately 500 photographs and negatives and other textual documents depicting farm and family life as well as the military in WWII. This series has been arranged into four sub-series: Scott Family Photographs ([ca. 1850s]), Personal Papers (1800-1980), Family Photographs(1800-1980), and Jim Vader War Records(1940-1944). |

Scott Family photographs. — ca. 1850s. — 109 photographs.
This sub-series contains records related to the Scott family. The Scott’s are the family line of Ethel May who married Daniel Vader.The images depict various family members and friends. Some of the photographs are stamped from Bancroft, ON and Calgary, AB, both cities the Scott family resided in. It also contains two undated photo albums that contain portraits. |

Scott Family album, large ca. 1850s
This grey fabric covered scrapbook measures 20.5 cm by 26 cm and has a metal closure which is broken. It contains 49 photographs and some ephemera. .They depict individuals and family groups from the Scott family in Brantford and Calgary. There are some loose photographs, including a group shot of an army platoon standing at attention in Calgary Park. Some of the photographs are tintype. A large number appear to be cabinet cards but they are tightly held in the scrapbook so removal for further viewing may cause damage. As well, there are some ephemeral items such as a newspaper clipping, and a memorial card. |

Scott Family album, small ca. 1850s
This red album measures 12.5 cm x 14 cm, and red with metal clasp and image of a little girl holding a kitten. It contains 36 photographs. Most of the photographs are slightly larger than a postage stamp, with a few resembling photo booth photographs. Several pages have multiple photographs tucked into the frame and several of the photographs are loose. All the images consist of headshots of various people. None of the people are identified. There is one small, biblical quote tucked into one of the pages. |

Jim Vader was the sixth child of Daniel and Ethel Vader. He was born 23 Feb 1925. James grew up in Spirit River. He enlisted in the army twice during World War II. He first joined on 23 April 1941 when he was only 16 years old. He was honourably discharged after 20 months. He enlisted again on 23 November 1943 and completed his training again before heading to Europe in July 1944. He was killed shortly after he arrived, on 1 Oct. 1944 and is buried in Bergen-op-zoom Canadian war cemetery in Holland.
This series contains records related to Jim Vader. Most of the records are related to his war service but some reflect his childhood in Spirit River. The records consist of photographs, letters from Jim to his family, official correspondence concerning his service and death, humourous postcards, a map of Belgium and his birth certificate. |

This file consists of a family history compiled by Ruth Lana Neilson which traces the Grimm family back as far as 1814 with the marriage of John Grim and Margaret Everhart. The book was originally published in Roseburg, Oregon and the inside caption reads; “From Ohio to Iowa, Nebraska, and Wisconsin, 1814 – 1993”. The book is spiral bound on includes family stories, family trees, and scanned newspaper clippings, photographs, and documents related to the Grim/Grimm families, as well as various off-shoots of the family. The book also includes a maiden name cross reference and additional hand-written insertions. |
