Administrative history / Biographical sketch
The Bezanson Community Blooms group was formed in 2003. Shortly thereafter the group started hosting botanical tours that visited different yards and garden locations around the Bezanson area. Bezanson Community Blooms offered these tours from 2003 to 2006. In addition to community botanical tours, the group also planted flowers at the Bezanson Hamlet sign, completed community garbage clean-ups, and created a “Gardening Tips” pamphlet that was periodically distributed to Bezanson mailboxes.
The largest project undertaken by the Bezanson Community Blooms was the publication of their “Native Flowers, Shrubs & Trees of the Bezanson Townsite” booklet. The booklet consists of photographs and research completed by botanist Dr. Joan Snyder of the many native plants at the Old Bezanson Townsite. The research and photographs were compiled into booklet form by Irene Gitzel and Wanda Zenner, members of the Bezanson Community Blooms Committee, after the group received a grant from the Community Initiatives Program through the Alberta Lottery Fund.
The booklet was released in August 2008 and sold at local businesses and heritage organizations around the Peace Region. In March 2014 the Bezanson Community Blooms group officially disbanded and their financial accounts were closed.
