Agency History

The Junior Forest Warden program began in the1930’s due to the large amount of forest fires that were occurring in British Columbia. Members pledged themselves to care for Wood, Water, Soil and Wildlife. The Hythe Junior Forest Wardens was originally organized in Goodfare, by Ann and Vern Steinke. The club eventually moved to Hythe where Irene McCallister took over with help from Vicky Miller, Ali Jenner and Knute Knutson. The Hythe club held events to raise money which included raffles and bake sales, they helped with the Highway clean-ups and also accepted donations from sponsors. In 1980, the Junior Forest Warden program celebrated their 50th Anniversary.

Custodial History

The records were donated to the archives by Irene McCallister who was one of the leaders of the organization in Hythe.
