The first page shows church services in the area, at Spirit River (Morning Worship and Sunday School, Evening Service, Choir Practice, Junior Choir, Ladies Aid, and the Library open 2 days per week for 1 hour each day), White Mountain (Sunday Service, Sabbath School, Singing Practice and Ladies Aid), and Roycroft (Sunday Service and Ladies Aid). The advertisements in the magazine are Spirit River businesses, but all the rest of the articles seem to be general moral pieces not local.

One mimeographed issue of “Aurora,” a school newspaper (or year book) produced by the Creative Writing and Typing Classes at Rycroft High School in 1959. It contains a Valedictory Address by Don Johnson, Editorial Address by Adoline Dreger, Principal’s Address by Mr. E. McKee, President’s message by Gordon Fontaine, highlights of the 1958 Christmas Concert, 1958 Bursaries, Initiation, the St. Patrick’s Day Dance, the Christmas Party, Oratorical Speech Contest, Ten Years Hence, the 1959 Commencement, Varsity Guest Weekend, Poetry, Curling, Stars of the Future, and poetic verses about every student in grade 10, 11 and 12. It also includes lists of members for the Staff, Creative Writing Class, Typing Class, Student’s Union, winners of ABC and Talent Contests, field day winners. The booklet ends with eight pages of hand-drawn advertisements and one page of Humour.

An alphabetical list of interdictions published January 15, 1954 under The Liquor Control Act by the Alberta Liquor Control Board. This list named people who had problems after consuming liquor, and who were banned from purchasing it in the province of Alberta. The list of about 2000 names covers the entire province of Alberta, as well as few individuals from Saskatchewan, and includes a place name for each person.

A certificate issued to the Hythe Community Auction Sale for raising $414.50 to be donated to the Kinsmen Milk-For-Britain Fund to purchase and deliver milk to the children of the bombed areas of Britain. The certificate is signed by Bert Bessent.

The book contains a picture of soldier, Jan Baumel, with information about his enlistment in the Polish Resettlement Corps 1942, his leaves, his medical information, and his discharge in 1949. He later came to live in Grande Prairie and died here in 1989.

“Grande Prairie Alberta, Center of the Peace River District” is a promotional booklet produced by the Grande Prairie Chamber of Commerce to encourage people to settle here. It covers “the agricultural, wholesale distributing, retail shopping, educational, judicial, governmental, cultural and sports” aspects of life in the Town of Grande Prairie.

This file consists of one typed story titled “Steamboats on the Smoky.”

Photocopy of a story by George Robinson, who worked on the railway as it was being constructed across the Smoky River at Pruden’s Crossing (Watino). The story is about the steamboats operating on the Smoky River between Peace River Crossing and the old townsite of Bezanson, and one particular attempt to take a steam engine for a flour mill from the “end of steel” at Pruden’s Crossing down to Bezanson. The story was copied from the Calverley collection at the Dawson Creek Archives.

Some of the inteviewees are not identified by name.

This booklet for the 1979 Miss Grande Prairie Queen Pageant contains the program for the night of the pageant, the history of the organization, photographs and introductory statements for the five judges, photographs and introductory statements for the seven contestants, lists of organizers and patrons, photographs of Miss Grande Prairie 1978 Miss Barbara Vavrek and Miss Canada 1978 Miss Catherine Swing, and advertisements from sponsoring clubs and local businesses. Contestants for the 1979 Miss Grande Prairie Queen Pageant were Cindy Hommy, Teresa Sinkewich, Janet Thomas, Laura Sawchuck, Carey Longson, Dena Jones, and Joey Wieliczko.

Invitation to the Master Farm Family banquet for the Conrad family in 1954, and a November 4, 1954 news clipping from the Edmonton Journal about the Conrads and their farm. The Harlie Conrad family of Clairmont consisted of Mr. and Mrs. Conrad, daughter Joan (William) Dredge and sons Wallace, Jack, and Robert. They were one of five families to receive the award in 1954.

Brochure for the official opening of the Dunvegan Bridge on August 31, 1960. The brochure gives a history of the site, specification of the bridge, and a description of the river valley. There is also a schedule for the opening program, attended by Premier Manning; Gordon Taylor, Minister of Highways; L H McManus, Deputy Minister; Vic McCune, Chief Bridge Engineer; and five MLAs. Floyd Gilliland, one of the MLAs, was the Master of Ceremonies. On the back of the program is a list of interesting facts about the bridge and photographs of the dignitaries. The event included Flight Lieutenant C.R. Hallowell, flying as “the Red Knight” in the sky above the bridge.

Grande Prairie, Alberta.” The Grande Prairie Department Store was opened March 17, 1945 by Arthur Wong and closed ca. 1967. It was located at 10017 100 Avenue. The phone number “146” denotes that the letterhead is dated between 1945 and 1951, at which the phone number changed to 2282.

Program for the Completion Ceremonies of the Alberta Resources Railway held at Grande Prairie on May 28, 1969.

Log book (with no entries) of a trip taken by individual boats down the Peace River from the Taylor Bridge on the Alaska Highway to Peace River town on May 16-18, 1964. This event was sponsored by the Alberta and British Columbia Peace River District Associated Chambers of Commerce.

Certificate given out in the winter of 1968-1969, when there were 43 consecutive days of frigid temperatures from December 22, 1968 to February 2, 1969. The temperature fell to -53. Signed by Mayor Elmer Borstad and Weatherman Bill Baillie.

A set of 29 panels and one map composing a project/display created by the students at Swanavon School, likely in 1989. The panels tell the story of Grande Prairie from 1909 to 1989 with panels focusing on municipal status, transportation, health care, education, communication, commerce, religion, law enforcement, improvements, and recreation and entertainment during the periods 1909 to 1919, 1919-1958, and 1958-1989. The map is double-sided, showing the City of Grande Prairie on one side and the County and portions of M.D. Greenview on the other side. The map also includes advertisement for many local businesses.

Mr. Beattie sings selections from “The Mikado” and Famous Opera Arias by Mozart, as well as songs by Purcell, Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, and others. The back of the program lists the Alaska Music Trail Committee members for 1963-1964 and the four concerts in the 1964-1965 Concert Series.

Notice of Rural Enumeration of Electors poster which was to be posted by the rural enumerator in at least three public places after he has taken his oath of office. This poster is for the Electoral District of Peace River, Rural Polling Division No. 96 Valhalla Centre comprising Township 74, in Ranges 9-10, West of the 6th Meridian. It states that M.O. Flatin had been appointed enumerator and that he would complete the preliminary list by Saturday, April 28, 1945. The list would then be posted in the same place as this poster so that every elector can check to see that all the information is correct. If any corrections needed to be made, Mr. Flatin would be available at his residence on SW 26-74-10-6 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 1945 to hear any concerns and make corrections. After that date, corrections could no longer be made.

Colour copy of both sides of a postcard sent by Harry Adair from Ada, Oklahoma, to Gerald (Gerhard) Wiens at Lake Saskatoon, Alberta on January 13, 1927. The Adairs had just arrived in Oklahoma where they were visiting parents. Mr. Gerald Wiens was a partner in the Mennonite group who were planning to purchase Adair’s Ranch at Scenic Heights.
