Agency History
The Eaglesham BPO Elks was organized in October 1967. Charter members are listed as F. Gaboury, P. Diemert, G Thibeault, F. Morrison, M. Burrows, R. Bugnet, P. Mazurkewich, P. Paziuk, L. Rouleau, B. Gaboury, E. Lessard, E.Trudel, T. Lessard, G. Knutson, Wm. Campbell, and Orest Melnyk. This club organized fast ball tournaments, barbeques, golf tournaments and put on many community functions including curling bonspiels, Christmas, New Years and Halloween Parties, and Turkey Shoots. In 1970 they began to operate the curling rink and the skating rink, and in 1972 provided a pancake breakfast and a beer garden at the Eaglesham Fair, sponsored a group of students to visit P.E.I. and hosted students from Montreal. In 1973 they added a Las Vegas Night They bought a used bus to travel to other Elk club meetings and often donated money to support community groups. By the 1980s membership and attendance at meetings was dwindling.
Custodial History
The records were donated to the South Peace Regional Archives by Matthew Wozniak in 2010.
Scope and Content
The fonds consists of a record book containing original minutes, a list of charter members, a record of events and bank balances of the Eaglesham BPO Elks #515 from 1967-1985. Included are hand written reports from Exalted Ruler, Nick Pookay (1976-1977) , 9 photographs glued on pages and 15 loose photographs with identifications attached that record functions in 1975-1976.
