Administrative history / Biographical sketch

Eva Scott was born Eva Kenneway. Her grandparents were David and Agnes Whyte, who emigrated from Scotland and her mother was one of their nine children They settled in the Wembley area where David worked in the mines at Millarston and Dimsdale becoming the foreman for the Schneider Mine and the Tissington Mine. Eva’s parents were Mary and Jim Kenneway and Eva went to school at Mountain Springs School for a short while before the family moved to Grande Prairie. Eva started teaching at the Peace School of Hope operated by the Grande Prairie and District Association for the Mentally Retarded, and her parents operated Barry Dale House, a dormitory for the children. Eva acquired her B Ed. and an M. Ed. And taught in Montrose Junior High School Grande Prairie for many years. She retired from teaching in 1996 and since 1998 has worked as a registered educational psychologist.

Bill Scott finished college at Ryerson in Toronto and came west in 1960, first to Mission, BC, then High River, AB, and then to the Herald Tribune in Grande Prairie in 1964. Bill saw the newspaper become a daily that year and he held various positions over the next years – reporter, editor, managing editor and “jack of all trades”. He retired in 2004 but continues to write a “Potpourri” column which he started in the 1970s and allows himself to the “called in” when needed. Bill and Eva were married in1968 and have three boys.
