Agency History

The Grande Prairie branch of the Edmonton chapter of the Society of Industrial Accountants of Alberta was organized on February 15, 1973 at an enthusiastic gathering of 40 people. The purpose of the society is to be the main body for the management accounting profession in Canada. The initial Grande Prairie executive included Chairman, Bob McDonald of Canadian Bechtel; Vice-chairman, Rick Buis, Grande Prairie Regional College; Secretary, Clive Lodge, North Canadian Forest Industries; Treasurer. Ken Laninga; and Public Relations, Dwayne Williams. The latter two were employed by North Canadian Forest Industries. An invitation for membership was extended to all businessmen interested in developing management accounting skills within their organizations. Education was the main focus of the organization and prospective students of accounting were encouraged to investigate the opportunities through the society’s professional development program which allowed them to obtain a Registered Industrial Accountant designation.
