Agency History

United Farmers’ of Alberta started as a place for farmers to work together towards a common goal. UFA evolved over the years serving many functions such as a lobby group, a political party and a retail store.

Grande Prairie and area became District 1. District 1 had a convention at Speke Hall in Grande Prairie in 1961, the convention discussed isues such as farm safety and the Wheat Board.

In 1948 the United Farmers of Alberta Cooperative was formed and survives to this day.

Custodial History

These records originated from Isabel Campbell’s reference files which were acquired from the Grande Prairie Public Library in 2013. These materials were part of a bequest by Isabel Campbell to the Library. The files were then donated to the archives in 2013.

Scope and Content

The fonds consist of financial statements (1954-1956), president’s report (1954), convention agenda (1956), list of members in sub-district G-31 (1956), correspondence, minutes of the District Convention (1961), minutes from planning meetings to create a District Team (1961-1962), results of a rural survey and study (1963), and Farms’ Union Program and Handbook (1954, 1957).
