Agency History

The Grande Prairie Duplicate Bridge Club was organized and directed by Clarence Johnston who was very skilled bridge player. The Duplicate Bridge Club started in 1989 at the Golden Age Centre. Clarence was also a director of the Golden Age Centre’s Contract Bridge Club. The Duplicate Bridge Club was still active in November 2000.

Custodial History

The records were preserved by Doreen MacDonell, a member of the Grande Prairie Bridge Club, and deposited in South Peace Regional Archives by Irene Nicolson, also a member of the club, in 2013.

Scope and Content

The fonds consists of membership lists from the Grande Prairie Duplicate Bridge Club 1989, one receipt book 1998-2000, a newsletter from the Northern Light 1990 newsletter that highlights Grande Prairie player Clarence Johnston and a book titled the “Laws of Duplicate Contract Bridge”.
