Turkish Baths & Persian Massages

Lake Saskatoon, ca. 1915

The Lake Saskatoon News in the March 3, 1914 paper had several interesting items, but the one that I especially noticed was the installation of a “duck and (dive) under” bath tub.  I thought this was perhaps a real piece of equipment, but couldn’t find any reference to it.  The writer of the Lake Saskatoon news tends to use highly embellished language in the reports, so perhaps this is an example.  There is also a reference to the amount of ice cut out of the lake for summer use – I think we forget what an important enterprise that was in pre-refrigeration days.  The last item that I thought was rather amusing talked about Dan Sullivan, who had ads frequently in the papers issuing and accepting challenges to box, and apparently having also been a woodsman and washman, now taking up the position of singing tutor!
