Curling in Slush

I thought the week between the Scotties and the Brier would be a good time to look at the local curling scene.  When reading the newspapers, it seems that February was just one big bonspiel after another.  I realized that the rinks in the area all had natural ice, and the weather couldn’t be counted on to stay cold enough after that.  The men’s bonspiel in Grande Prairie was a huge event in 1938.  The curling started Monday and finished on Saturday.  There were forty rinks entered, and the last draw was at midnight.  There were five events, and seven sheets of ice were in use.  This was pretty serious business!  The following clippings from the March 3, 1938 paper tell some interesting stories from that bonspiel.
