2001.1.127A short article in the Sept. 4, 1914 paper noted ‘some very favourable changes to the traveling public’. This trail came in from the north, and had been Grande Prairie’s major link with the outside world until the Edson Trail was established in 1911. The Edson Trail was shorter, but it could still take months to travel these trails between Edmonton and Grande Prairie. (from the booklet Historical Walking and Driving Tour: Grande Prairie, Alberta Culture and Multiculturalism). So any improvements would have been welcomed by local residents.
