This short article, while interesting and sounding kind of fun, raises more questions than it answers. It appears to be a bit of an ‘inside’ story, where perhaps the people of the time reading the story knew all about it, but looking back 100 years we wonder what kind of a vessel was it, how significant was the reference to the Captain’s lady friends, and what was it about the well on the shore that the Rear Admiral should be aware of. I guess we’ll just have to enjoy it for what it is!
