Lorne Emile McArthur was born in Everett, Washington on March 23rd, 1911. Lorne arrived in Grande Prairie with his parents in June of 1918, the family stayed in Bear Lake for a time before moving to Bezanson. In the spring of 1919, the family moved to Sturgeon Lake where his father had a homestead. In 1928 his father built a store in Debolt and Lorne hauled freight from Grande Prairie. When his father moved away, Lorne took over the store. On January 7th, 1937 Lorne married Ada Lenes and they had nine children. Lorne sold the store in 1939 and moved to Goodwin. In 1940 he enlisted in the Army and joined the 49th Loyal Edmonton Regiment and served for five years in England, North Africa and Italy. When he returned, he farmed some and then decided to move to Grande Prairie in 1949 where he worked at the plywood plant for 15 years until he retired. Lorne passed away on October 7th, 1983 at the age of 72 and is buried in the City of Grande Prairie Cemetery.
