MacDonald, Glengarry Alexander

Glengarry Alexander MacDonald was born on November 5th, 1922 in Dodsland, SK. The family moved to the Woking area in 1929. Glen joined the Army in 1940 and went overseas in 1941. He trained in England and Scotland, then served in North Africa, Italy and NW Europe. He was wounded in Italy in 1944. After the war was over in Europe, Glen volunteer for the Pacific and was on leave when the war in the Pacific ended. He served five years as an Engineer in the Infantry with the Royal Canadian Engineers I Corps 12th Field Company. All five of his children (with his wife Christina) served in the Armed Forces. After the war, Glen returned home and started farming and also worked as a carpenter. Glen trained race horses and, in the winter, season worked in the sawmill. Eventually Glen started raising cattle, this would make farming a year-round business. Glen left the farm in June 2013 and moved into Pleasant View Lodge, in Spirit River. Glen passed away on May 15th, 2015 in Spirit River.
