Donald Edgar MacAlister was born in Hampton, NB on February 22nd, 1923. His family moved west in 1927 to Equity and then Millarston. Don moved to the west coast in 1933 to complete schooling. In 1936 the family returned to Millarston where Don finished grade 8 and then worked as a farmer. In 1942 Don joined the 49th Edmonton Regiment. He trained in Grande Prairie and Calgary. He went overseas in July 1943 to England, then to Italy. Don was wounded in action and received a medical discharge in May of 1945. When he returned to Canada, he started farming a section of VLA land at Dimsdale. He became a member of the Pipestone Creek Legion when it was formed. Don married Betty Brumpton on April 27th, 1949, they had five children. In the Spring of 1954, they moved to Grande Prairie where Don started work with Grande Prairie Lumber. In 1962 when some property at Pipestone Creek came up for sale, Don and Betty sold their land and bought three quarters. In 1975, Don stopped working for the lumber company and would go on to farm full time. Don passed away on January 16th, 1999 at the age of 75. He is buried in the City of Grande Prairie Cemetery.
