She attended high school in Grande Prairie where where she excelled in softball and track and field, then worked in the Bank of Montreal. She became involved in the Stagette Club, the Majorettes, and the softball team. She married Max Henning, a World War II air force veteran, in 1948, and they had three children: Cam, Donna, and Brenda. Marie worked at the town hall, then for the County, and from 1962 to 1992 for the Provincial Government. Max and Marie established Mac Arabians, raising, training, and showing their Arabian horses.
