On April 1st, 1921 John Kitson was born in Spirit River, two months later the family moved to Aspen Ridge, near Grande Prairie. Later on, they moved across the Wapiti where the family obtained a homestead. In 1934 John started work for Mr. Palmer in Wembley on a dairy farm. In the fall of 1938, the family moved to Vancouver where John started working as a truck driver. On May 10th, 1940 he joined the Seaforth Highlanders. The unit was sent to Calgary on May 14th. On August 7th, 1940 John married Viola Gray. In March of 1941 he was transferred to the 14th Calgary Tank Regiment and shipped overseas on June 17th, 1941. In September of 1945 John was sent back to Calgary and subsequently discharged from the Army in October. When he arrived home, he was offered a job with CNR out of Kamloops. He and Viola had five children together. John passed away on May 3rd, 1998 at age 77 in Victoria, BC. He is buried at Hillside Cemetery in Kamloops, BC.
