John Kariga was born on August 1st, 1925 in Buscodviche, Ukraine. He came to Canada with his parents in 1929 and settled in the Blueberry Creek area. His father, Pete, farmed with horses and raised cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, geese and turkeys; he also kept bees for honey. John served in World War II in England, Holland, and Germany. He then returned to farming. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and being outdoors. He worked at Moonshine Lake Park for a few years, as well. John passed away in the Spirit River Hospital on June 19th, 2009 at the age of 83 years old. He is buried in the Spirit River Cemetery.
