White, Sophie Kandt

Sophie Kandt was born in Maple Creek, SK. In 1925 the family moved to Fox Valley, SK for more farming opportunities. During the tough years of the 1930s, Sophie’s father, John was the local Reeve. In 1937, John rented a farm just south of Wanham where they farmed until moved to Peoria in 1939. Sophie and her siblings Bert and Robert all served in the Army. She served in the Canadian Women’s Army Corp. Sophie married Frank White on October 26th, 1945. They moved from Calgary to farm in the West Vale District. Due to Frank’s poor health, they then moved back to Wanham. Later moving to Jasper Place and then on to Sherwood Park, AB. They lived there until Frank passed away in 1964. Sophie and her family of five moved to Vancouver.
