Benjamin G. Jefcoat was born on September 27th, 1885 in Deming, Luna County, New Mexico, U.S.A. Arrived in Grande Prairie in December of 1919 and filed for a homestead north of the old town of Beaverlodge. He would trap and raise cattle in the area. In 1926 and 1927 he had a contract to haul the mail from Wembley to Rolla, the round trip took six days and required 26 horses to complete. In 1932 he moved his family to Tupper, BC. This is where he ran a sawmill, but when the price of lumber dropped significantly they were forced to move to Kelowna (in 1934) and later to Enderby. Ben served three years overseas with the Canadian Army, in 1946 he died as a result of war injuries. Benjamin died on May 30th, 1946 and is buried in Enderby Cliffside Cemetery, Enderby, B.C.
