Flom, Allen

Allen Flom, nicknamed “Sonny”, was the youngest child of Lars Anderson (also spelled Andreas) Flom of Norway and Olga Kristine (Larson) Flom of Minnesota USA.  His older siblings were Mildred, Alice, and Opal.  Allen’s parents and his two oldest sisters moved from North Dakota to Grande Prairie in 1917, and in 1919 his father filed on a homestead in Valhalla Centre district. Opal was born in 1920. The farming endeavor did not work out for Lars, so the family moved into Valhalla Centre, and Lars worked at the Co-operative Creamery Company.  Allen was born in March 1926.  In January 1931 the family lost their home in a fire, and tragically the mother, Olga, died within the same week.  Lars and the four children moved to Hythe where Lars became an agent for Massy Harris.  Lars passed away in 1935 leaving Allen an orphan at only age 9.  Several years later, Allen enlisted in WW II.  He and his wife and children settled in Beaverlodge AB.
