Flaaoy/Floaay, John

John Flaaoy came to the Peace Country from Norway in 1929.  For the first two summers he worked for the Elvestad and Moe families in the Buffalo Lakes area (Canor School District).  In the winters he worked in the sawmills.  In 1942 he joined the Norwegian Army and served overseas until 1945.  Back in Canada, John purchased Albert Abrahamson’s homestead NW 15-74-7, in fall 1946.  He also purchased the Sven Hauge’s and Nordby homesteads, and farmed for many years.  John sold his farm to his neighbors in spring 1974 and returned to Norway for a short time.  He died in September 1979 at age 87 in Hythe AB.
