Peter “Pete” Krol was born on April 18th, 1925 in a small town called Eerde in Holland. After Holland was freed during World War II, Peter was drafted into the Dutch Royal Army. He served for three and a half years, most of which was in Indonesia. After he returned from the war, he married Jane on March 19th, 1953. They shared an interest in farming and set out to Canada on March 24th, 1953. They settled in the Lethbridge area where they went on to have four children. In the spring of 1960, they moved to Picture Butte where they lived for three years and had two more children. In 1962 due to health reasons, they moved to the Peace River district (Spirit River area). In 1965 Pete went to Edmonton for a hip operation which made it difficult for him to work for an extended period of time, his wife Jane tended to the farm and all of the livestock during this time. Many neighbours and members of the Knights of Columbus pitched in so that the crop would be put in that spring. The farm eventually shifted to become strictly a dairy farm and is known as Willowvale Dairy. Peter Krol passed away in Grande Prairie on February 20th, 1984 at the age of 58. He is buried in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Spirit River.
