Peggy Gartly was the daughter of Jack and Lucy Morgan of Burstall SK. In 1948, she married George Gartly from Saskatchewan. Their son, Robert, was born in 1949. That summer, they were encouraged to seek a homestead in the Peace River Country, by their friends. At that time the Lassiter Project provided land in the Eaglesham AB area for returning WW II veterans. In September they loaded up a trailer and their sedan, and headed to Eaglesham, with their 2 month-old baby, to file on their land. They returned to Saskatchewan to earn money; Peggy found a 6-month teaching job in Portreeve SK. On July 11, 1950 they returned to their new homestead. Peggy taught at the school in Eaglesham, while George was a “cat” operator for Lassiter. Just as everything was falling into place, sadly George died from a work accident in September. Peggy received help from friends and neighbors, and her brother, John, moved there, farming her land for many years. In 1953, Peggy married Gilbert Ulland, and they continued to live on the farm. Gilbert died in November 2003, and Peggy died in June 2015 in Grande Prairie.
