Stanley Foster, born c. 1918, was one of 4 sons of Oscar and Magna Nabseth Foster. Oscar, originally from Minnesota, had two brothers who also settled in the Sexsmith area. Oscar and Magna came to the Peace area over the Edson Trail in 1911. Oscar filed on two sections of land: E1/2 15 and S1/2 23-73-6-W6.
Stanley’s older brothers were Norman (who also served in WW II) and Earl (born 1914); his younger brother was Merven. Norman married Lydia and was a missionary for many years. After Oscar died in 1954, the sons Earl, Stanley, and Merven (known at the Foster Brothers) farmed their parents’ homestead. The also acquired more land around them. The Oscar Foster family, having a mixed farm, was the first to breed purebred Shorthorn cattle in the area. Magna passed away in 1968; then Earl passed in 1972. Stanley and Merven, both bachelors, continued operating the farm at that time, and specializing in grain. Stanley died at age 69 in June 1987, in Sexsmith.
